The 20th Meeting of the BSEC-URTA General Assembly

The 20^th Meeting of the BSEC-URTA General Assembly was held on 24 November 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey with the participation of its Members and Observers and being honoured by the participation of the following guests: H.E. Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos, the Secretary General of the BSEC Organization, Mr. Umberto de Pretto – IRU Deputy Secretary General and Mr. Alexander Chkheidze, Honorary President of GIRCA.

The Agenda of the meeting contained important items for the road transport industry such as: Outlook Report (G3119), Activity Report on the BSEC-URTA Priorities in 2011 (G3120), Follow up to the BSEC-URTA Search Conference, 7-10 September 2011, Antalya (G3125) and the Information on the BSEC Forum on Trade and Road Transport Facilitation, Marmara Hotel, Istanbul on 25 November 2011 (see the Agenda)

The BSEC-URTA Outlook Report (G3119), shows that the number of trips only within the BSEC region increased by nearly 10% over the same period of the past year 2010, which indicates that the trade growth within the region gains more significantly.  According to the data presented trips to the trade partners outside both the BSEC and the EU regions have also increased by 3.31% in the first half of 2011 over the same period in 2010.

Mr. Oguz Baburoglu, Professor from the ARAMA Search gave brief presentation of the successful realization of the BSEC-URTA Search Conference in Antalya during 7-10 September 2011. The General Assembly decided that Conclusions of the Conference as a long term public-private framework document to be used for elaboration and implementation of future BSEC-URTA work and activities towards 2021.

Mr. Ilirjan Mataj, President of the Association of Albanian Enterprises for International Road Transport (ANALTIR) and Mr. Leonid Kostiuchenko, President of Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine (AsMAP UA) were elected as BSEC-URTA Vice-Presidents for 2012.

BSEC-URTA welcomed with pleasure and accepted the invitation of ANALTIR to host 27th Meeting of the Management Council and 21st Meeting of the General Assembly in Tirana on 11-12 April 2012 and the invitation of AITA to host 28th Meeting of the Management Council and 22nd Meeting of the General Assembly in Chisinau in October 2012.
